Friends of the Narrows Community Park

Since 2019, a group of volunteers have been working in the Narrows Community Park in Hoole to develop a number of meadows and planted areas with the support of the Council - this has been much appreciated by local residents and the park has won several awards (King and Queen Consort Coronation Biodiversity Competition - CWAC - 1st Prize (2023), RHS Its your Neighbourhood Outstanding - Level 5 Award (2023) and Cheshire West Design Awards, Commended - Public Realm (2025)).

The local community have really responded positively to the changes in the park over the past 6 years; people now stop and spend time looking at the various meadows on the park, rather than simply walking through.

The Rotary Clubs of Chester, Saughall and Chester Deva have been involved in a joint initiative to supply Foodbanks in the area.

The warehouse or hub for Foodbanks in the Chester, Ellesmere Port and Neston areas is near Cheshire Oaks and the original project, initiated by Saughall, was to donate £1000 to them to convert into appropriate goods – they were very excited at the prospect of Rotary involvement. Luckily Saughall Club member Andrew Errington was until retirement an expert in buying and sourcing products for a large company. In the event, the three Chester Clubs got together and raised £1500 which with a District grant made the total a substantial £2300!

The required dry goods were selected by Lyndsey, the Hub Manager, and Andrew scoured the country for the best deals available. The purchased goods, worth ££500 at supermarket prices, were delivered by HGV from Leicester on Monday, 22 June, with representatives of the three Clubs on hand to witness the event.
