Chester Vigil For Ukraine

Friends of the Narrows Community Park

Since 2019, a group of volunteers have been working in the Narrows Community Park in Hoole to develop a number of meadows and planted areas with the support of the Council - this has been much appreciated by local residents and the park has won several awards (King and Queen Consort Coronation Biodiversity Competition - CWAC - 1st Prize (2023), RHS Its your Neighbourhood Outstanding - Level 5 Award (2023) and Cheshire West Design Awards, Commended - Public Realm (2025)).
The local community have really responded positively to the changes in the park over the past 6 years; people now stop and spend time looking at the various meadows on the park, rather than simply walking through.

Vigil for Ukraine - Chester City Centre 4 March 2022

Rotary Chester organised a street appeal at the Vigil for Ukraine in the centre of Chester on Friday 4 March 2022.  From the amazing generosity of Cestrians and visitors, we raised £2922.52 for the Red Cross Ukraine Appeal. In addition, online donations and our card reader produced £540 and our Club will donate £1,000 from our Club charity funds.  With Gift Aid, we hope to exceed £5,000. From a standing start on Wednesday we organised the Council license, found and labelled 30 collection buckets and galvanised our members, friends and relations to wear our tabard and stand on the street. The event saw moving speeches from Chester MP Chris Matheson, Mike Johnson from Chester's City of Sanctuary group. a member of the clergy from Chester Cathedral and the Shareshop  Please contact us if you would like to find out more about our charity work in Chester and around the world. Update: Arising from this appeal, donations from Club members and our own contribution mentioned above we have exceed £5,000 as we hoped.  We've sent this sum to the Red Cross Ukraine appeal as an interim payment, and will continue to donate as and when our fundraising gathers more contributions.
