Friends of the Narrows Community Park

Since 2019, a group of volunteers have been working in the Narrows Community Park in Hoole to develop a number of meadows and planted areas with the support of the Council - this has been much appreciated by local residents and the park has won several awards (King and Queen Consort Coronation Biodiversity Competition - CWAC - 1st Prize (2023), RHS Its your Neighbourhood Outstanding - Level 5 Award (2023) and Cheshire West Design Awards, Commended - Public Realm (2025)).

The local community have really responded positively to the changes in the park over the past 6 years; people now stop and spend time looking at the various meadows on the park, rather than simply walking through.

Rotary Clubs around the world celebrate their formation, known as Charter Night. We celebrated our 103rd Charter Night in June 2025 at Cheshire View on the outskirts of our City with an excellent meal, great entertainment and splendid fellowship.

The Right Worshipful The Lord Mayor of Chester, Councillor Sherin Aktar and her consort, Mr Matt Baker BEM, President Heather Oldham PHF, Rtn Barbara Sinclair, Asst District Governor 1180, Mrs Jennifer Jackson, President of Inner Wheel, Rtn Christian Rauch, past President of the Rotary Club of Lörrach, accompanied by his family, Rtn Markus Schnabel, Secretary Rotary Club of Lörrach, and incoming President Rtn Andrew Colley.

Matt Baker

Matt Baker is a local lad who has travelled the world extensively, entertaining and helping others through his music. He entertained us with a very amusing insight into one of his weeks; his dialogue included playing the accordion, video, laughter and lots of talking. His love of music, life, his dogs, his local community and helping others to shine. He has several acting, theatre and television credits to his name including the Chester Mystery Plays.

PHF Award

The Rotary Club of Chester has awarded its highest honour, the Paul Harris Fellowship Award to Rtn Pete Fryer, for dedication and service to the club and his organisation of the Rotary Youth Speaks competition. The ADG of District 1180 presented the award to him.

Presidential Handover

Finally, Rotary members would like to convey their thanks to outgoing President Heather Oldham PHF for her contribution in the past year and welcome in our new President, Rtn. Andrew Colley for 2025/26.
