Park Bench Memorial

Friends of the Narrows Community Park

Since 2019, a group of volunteers have been working in the Narrows Community Park in Hoole to develop a number of meadows and planted areas with the support of the Council - this has been much appreciated by local residents and the park has won several awards (King and Queen Consort Coronation Biodiversity Competition - CWAC - 1st Prize (2023), RHS Its your Neighbourhood Outstanding - Level 5 Award (2023) and Cheshire West Design Awards, Commended - Public Realm (2025)).
The local community have really responded positively to the changes in the park over the past 6 years; people now stop and spend time looking at the various meadows on the park, rather than simply walking through.

We donated a park bench to fomer Rotarian Peter Russell, and received these thanks from his family:

We are so delighted that Chester Rotary Club have donated this bench in Westminster Park for our Dad, Peter Russell.  Our Dad loved the park - he lived in Chester near the park from 1970 until he died in 2014.   Dad knew many dog walkers in the park over the years, many of whom became friends.

Dad loved his time at the Rotary club where he was President in 2013 helping to organise events such as the Raft Race and setting up the famous golf days raising a lot of money for charity with the fantastic Rotary team, working with lots of his friends there.  He would love to think that a bench was there to remember him and to give people a rest whilst enjoying fresh air, dogs and exercise in the beautiful Westminster Park, whilst watching a game of bowls.

Thank you Chester Rotary Club Members - especially to Heather, Brian, Andy, Tim and Margaret who organised this!
