At tonight’s (online) meeting, Members were delighted with a presentation and discussion with Dr Mark Pilgrim CEO of Chester Zoo which faces ‘more challenges’ following the news of another national lockdown.

The presentation covered the 6 strategic objectives of the zoo, its financial position in normal operating times and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic which saw the Zoo close in the first March lockdown until the summer and yet again it is set to close its doors again this week as new restrictions in England come into place for the next four weeks from Thursday, November 5.

Prior to this unusual year the zoo enjoyed record attendances in 2019 and has plans for new attractions on its 120-acre site in Chester.

We have had a range of speakers at our twice-monthly meetings, recently including a virologist, our local cancer hospital and the Storyhouse CEO.
