Friends of the Narrows Community Park

Since 2019, a group of volunteers have been working in the Narrows Community Park in Hoole to develop a number of meadows and planted areas with the support of the Council - this has been much appreciated by local residents and the park has won several awards (King and Queen Consort Coronation Biodiversity Competition - CWAC - 1st Prize (2023), RHS Its your Neighbourhood Outstanding - Level 5 Award (2023) and Cheshire West Design Awards, Commended - Public Realm (2025)).

The local community have really responded positively to the changes in the park over the past 6 years; people now stop and spend time looking at the various meadows on the park, rather than simply walking through.

Rotary International has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years and has made significant progress in the fight. Rotary is a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, which was launched in 1988.

Polio cases reduced: Rotary's efforts have helped reduce polio cases by more than 99.9%.

Donations and volunteer hours: Rotary members have contributed more than $2.1 billion and countless volunteer hours to the cause.

Purple4Polio: Rotary's Purple4Polio campaign raises funds and awareness for the End Polio Now initiative.

Public awareness: Rotary launched the "This Close" public awareness campaign and ambassador program, which includes celebrities like Desmond Tutu, Itzhak Perlman, and Bill Gates.

Matching donations: The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation matches donations to Rotary 2-to-1.

Polio is a potentially deadly disease that attacks the nervous system and most commonly affects children under the age of 5. It spreads from person to person, typically through contaminated water.
