Friends of the Narrows Community Park

Since 2019, a group of volunteers have been working in the Narrows Community Park in Hoole to develop a number of meadows and planted areas with the support of the Council - this has been much appreciated by local residents and the park has won several awards (King and Queen Consort Coronation Biodiversity Competition - CWAC - 1st Prize (2023), RHS Its your Neighbourhood Outstanding - Level 5 Award (2023) and Cheshire West Design Awards, Commended - Public Realm (2025)).

The local community have really responded positively to the changes in the park over the past 6 years; people now stop and spend time looking at the various meadows on the park, rather than simply walking through.

The City of Chester Rotary Club 102nd Charter Dinner

Rotary clubs all around the world celebrate their formation known as Charter Night. Rotary Chester held theirs on Friday 28 June at the Cheshire View Country Club.

Honoured Guests were The Right Worshipful - The Lord Mayor of Chester and her consort Mr. Stephen Daniels, Dr. Peter Waterman Order of the British Empire and Deputy Lieutenant, The Very Reverend Dr. Tim Stratford, Dean of Chester Cathedral and Mrs. Jennifer Stratford, President Stephen Cross and his wife, Helen Rtn. Chris Stone, Assistant District Governor of Rotary District 1180, and Mrs. Anne Stone, Mrs. Jeanne Storrar, President of Inner Wheel, and husband Rtn. Andrew Storrar Rtn Heather Oldham, (PHF), President Elect of the Rotary club of Chester, Rtn Andrew Colley, President Elect Nominee of the Rotary club of Chester.

All attendees were entertained by our guest speaker Dr. Peter Waterman who spoke about his young working life entering in the music business and in particular his work with the making tracks project in the Chester Cathedral and how it was engaging young people from all walks of life .

Speaking ahead of installing the model railway into the cathedral this August, Pete Waterman said: “We’ve worked very hard on this model, used some innovative techniques, in creating the layout that represents part four of the world record holding Making Tracks model railway. Watford Junction from the West Coast mainline is featured in miniature with the 64 foot long railway.

Chris Stone, Assistant District Governor of Rotary District 1180, had the pleasure of presenting the Paul Harris Fellowship to Rotarians David Hughes, Barry Ingram and Michael Roberts for their contribution to the Chester Club and Rotary International,

The (PHF) Award is the highest honour that Rotary can bestow on an individual Named after Paul Harris' founder of Rotary in 1905 in Chicago the award is available to Rotarians and non-Rotarians who demonstrate the high professional and personal standards exemplified by Paul Harris The award is given by The Rotary Foundation in recognition of substantial and exemplary community service in support of Rotary ideals.
