Members of the Rotary Club of Chester have donated generously to the Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal.  Together with a grant from Club funds, we have sent £2,000 to the Disasters Emergency Committee, contributing to the Rotary International efforts to alleviate suffering in the area arising from the earthquake.

The area was struck by a devastating earthquake on 6 February that has killed tens of thousands of people, destroyed thousands of homes and other structures, and left people across the region without shelter in bitterly cold winter weather.  DEC charities and their local partners are among the first responders providing urgent aid. Following the search and rescue operation, immediate priorities are access to healthcare, shelter for those who have lost their homes, heating in safe spaces, blankets, warm clothes, ensuring people have food and clean water.

The Rotary world responded to this catastrophe immediately. RI President Jennifer Jones activated our disaster response efforts, communicated with the affected districts, and encouraged governors in those regions to apply for disaster response grants and share information about their relief efforts so that Rotary can amplify the calls for support.
